Following is in reply to your comments of February 8, 2019 concerning this project. Later comments will
respond to your numbered items. First, let me correct one code reference that may have led you to
consider this an addition instead of an alteration. In the Energy Code Notes, upper right hand of the
sheet, the reference should have been to R503, not R502. I've made that correction.
The project is an alteration. Existing skylights and windows are being removed from the Office /
Sunroom constructed in 1985. When initially constructed, the Sunroom had a hot tub (still there,
decked over, and to be removed). The room is now used as an Office, and that's what it will remain,
without a raised area in one corner of the room. After this work is completed, there will be no skylights
and the glazed area will be less; one could expect the heat loss/gain will be less.
Review Comments:
General:
1. Proposed use of space is personal office in a residence.
2. It is proposed that the electric baseboard heater now in the space will continue to be used, and
will not be augmented.
Building Section Cl:
3. Floor construction is wood framed (plywood on wood joists) over a garage space below. Type
and R-value of insulation is unknown, as destructive inquiry has not been used to find out what
is in the floor.
4. Insulation for infill areas is now noted as R-21.
5. Vapor barrier is indicated where framing is exposed. It is not proposed to remove interior
finishes in order to install new vapor barrier. It is very possible that, due to the room's former
use with a hot tub in it, a vapor barrier was installed over the framing.
Thank you for your timely review. Please contact me if there are further questions.
