Dear Ron:
I have reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division. As
proposed, the internally illuminated wall cabinet sign cannot be approved. Internally
illuminated signs in the Neighborhood Commercial areas like Perrinville must meet
specific conditions found in Section 20.60.020.M of the Edmonds Community
Development Code. Most importantly, internally illuminated cabinet signs may only
light the letters, not the background (20.60.020.M.2). As an alternative, the aluminum
panel proposed for the smaller sign and address sign would be appropriate for the large
sign. Otherwise, please change the proposed cabinet sign and indicate how it meets the
identified code criteria.
