REMODEL AT THE MARINER BUILDING B
Mr. Singer:
I have reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division. Before I can
sign off on the permit, however, the following information needs to be clarified:
1. 18th Unit at Mariner Condos: As you are aware, during the pre-application phase of
the Mariner remodel project, the City discovered that an 18th dwelling unit had been
added to the Mariner site, specifically in the basement of Building B. No building
permits were issued for this unit at the time it was added, which occurred sometime
between 1964 and 1974, so the City had no knowledge of the unit until 2008. This 18th
unit is non-conforming on a site which is only zoned to have as many as 17 units.
As a result, I have drafted a Determination of Legal Nonconforming Land Use to bring
the extra unit into compliance. Once the current owner of the unit signs the document,
please return it so I can sign it and complete my review of the remodel of Building B.
Please make all submittals to a Development Services Permit Coordinator, Monday through
Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, except on Wednesdays when we are closed for permit review. If
