EDMONDS MEMORIAL CEMETERY
On behalf of the Planning Division, I have reviewed the above sign permit application
and have the following comments:
1.The proposed sign is a governmental sign and is exempt from the sign code
except
that the dimensional and placement standards still apply pursuant to ECDC
20.60.095. The Edmonds Memorial Cemetery is zoned P (Public), which does not
have any specific dimensional and/or placement standards within the City of
Edmonds sign code (ECDC 20.60); however, the zoning regulations for Public zoned
lands address signs.
2.Pursuant to ECDC 16.80.030.D, all signs on P zoned property are subject to ADB
approval. The ADB review of this proposal will be District-Based Design Review
conducted by city staff. Please submit the following for the design review process:
a.A set of revised project plans
b.A set of color drawings of the proposed sign.
c.Proposed landscaping around the sign.
3.ECDC 16.80.030.D further states that, Signs shall be kept to a minimum size, which
is compatible with the surrounding neighborhood and uses, while providing adequate
visibility. To ensure that this sign is compatible with the surrounding neighborhood
and uses, city staff will apply the size standards of the adjacent BP and BN zones for
the sign. Pursuant to ECDC 20.60.045, individual signs in the BP and BN are
allowed a maximum of 24 square feet sign area.
4.The minimum street setback for structures in the P zone is 20 feet. The proposed
location of the sign is within this 20 foot street setback. If you wish to place the sign
at this location, the sign cannot be more than 3 feet tall. Please revise the sign design
accordingly.
