RE: Plan Check: BLD20090299
Project: Decks
Project Address: same
During review of the plans for the above noted project, it was found that the following information,
clarifications or changes are needed. Please provide written responses as to where the changes can
be found on the plans, and submit revised plans/documents to a Permit Coordinator.
Even with the stairs moved per planning letter dated May 28, 2009, the Items listed below are still
applicable:
1.Identify the wood species for the 2x6 decking.
2.Identify the guard post and rail materials.
3.Identify how the welded wire mesh is secured to the guard posts and rails.
4.The handrails at the stairs are required to be graspable. Identify the material and size of
handrailing.
5.Identify the stair stringer material. The stringers appear to be overspanned and will have an
unacceptable amount of deflection unless a center support is provided.
6.Rotation blocking is required between the joists at the bearing beam and needs to be shown on
the plans.
7.Minimum footing depth is 12 from grade to the bottom of the footing and shound be so noted
on the plans.
8.Identify the material used for the bottom landing (concrete?).
9.The angled portion of the larger deck parallel to the joists seems to be missing a beam, post ,
angle brace or some sort of support at the side not supported by the cantilevered 6x8 beam.
Show how that portion of the deck is supported.
10.At the same deck, where the 2x8 joists are cantilevered more than 36, the joist spacing will
need to be tightened up to 12 o.c. according to Table R502.3.3(1).
