Dear Mr. Ouderkirk:

As requested, this letter summarizes our construction special inspection services completed for
the project. The construction phase services were a continuation of our participation on the
project which included earlier work during the design phase. Our construction special
inspection services were intended to satisfy the requirements of the City of Edmonds Special
Inspection and Testing Agreement (Agreement) for the project, undated, signed by Associated
Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI) on April 14, 2011. Our special inspection site visits also provided
us the opportunity to observe important geotechnical engineering and surface water infiltration
aspects of the project that were not included in the Agreement.
SPECIAL INSPECTION SUMMARY
AESI visited the site 10 times between July 15 and December 27, 2011. We observed
geotechnical engineering aspects of the following tasks:
• Site stripping;
• Mass grading and building pad construction;
• Foundation and floor subgrade preparation;
• Foundation backfill and footing drain placement;
• Parking lot paving subgrade preparation;
• Infiltration system confirmatory infiltration rate testing.

These observation tasks were completed on a part-time, and on -call basis. Each of our field
visits was documented in a daily field report which was distributed to the contractor, architect,
and City. Based on our observations and testing as documented in the field reports, the
geotechnical and infiltration aspects of the project observed by us were completed in general
accordance with project documents and our recommendations, in our opinion.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of continued service. If you have any questions, please do
not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES, INC.
