Stotiject: ENGR201120319 .. Storamater PUMP Systern 111, Caspers
Hi,
Yesterday I got a call from Richard Blacklow the new owner of 114 Caspers. He told me they have been
having problem with the pump systern recently installed by Joe Schniaus and his contractor-. The systema
was designed by Donna Breske, P.11". and approved by the City in August 2012. According to Richard, the
PUMP was not tams rflng on properly, rnost likely a problem with the float switch and the alarm kept going
o ff.,
Mr. Schmaus and his contractor were replacing the existing pump with a Zoeller model 1 53. Richard
wanted to know if this was OK with. the City. I've looked at the performance, curve of the Zoeller- M53
compared to the originally specified pump (Barnes model SU 33), and they are very similar (Ms Breske
had sent information on this issue last Friday 11/14 --see attached). The Zoeller pump will provide a
slightly lower flow rate which will be lower than the allowable discharge to the City stormwater system,
I called Richard back today and told him the Zoeller pump was OK from the City's point of view.I also
told him it was not the City's responsibility to ensure the pump system functions properly. It is the
responsibility of the owner and/or Mr. Schmaus and his contractor.
Richard would like an e-mail from you saying the new pump is approved.
Sincerely,
Jerry Shuster, P.E.

Jerry,
I have been told the City Engineering Department has visited 114 Caspers Street to look at the pump
and that the alarm has gone off a couple of times.
It is a Barnes 113 hp pump that has been installed in the pump basin.
Because the float is housed in an shroud it is important that the pump remains level in order for the
float to work correctly, (see attached Product Sheet).
Please have city engineers confirm the pump is placed in a level position.
Please feel free to contact me with any comments or questions.
Sincerely,
Donna L. Breske, P.E.
