Trent Cross Asphalt I Greg Krankurs SUMMARY OF FIELD TIME SPENT ON PROJECT TODAY: Start Travel: 0900 Arrive on Site: 0930 Departed Site: 1100 End Travel: 1130 ACTIVITY BEING INSPECTED: Compaction of native soils used as backfill for sanitary sewer tie-in and as road subgrade. GENERAL LOCATION: 758 Bell Street, Edmonds. DETAILED LOCATION: The specific locations and elevations tested are summarized on the attached `Field Compaction Test Report'. TYPE OF INSPECTION: Periodic. DETAILS OF PLACEMENT OF THIS MATERIAL: I arrived on site in Edmonds at 0900 at the request of the client. I met with client representative Mike O'Malley upon arrival. Mike informed me that the the contractor had removed the temporary patch and HMA in the areas being paved today. At the time of my arrival, the paving crew (Trent Cross Asphalt) had begun placing HMA next to the curb/gutter east of the tie-in location. According to discussion with the Client, the sewer trench was approximately 4-feet deep and was backfilled using excavated native soils. Mike informed me that contractor backfilled the trench in 1-foot thick lifts and applied compaction with a vibratory plate. I observed the contractor apply compactive effort on the top lift of the backfill materials using a Bomag BW 900-50 dual steel drum vibratory roller. HWA INSPECTION ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THIS ITEM: I performed visual observation and compaction testing. Test results are summarized on the attached `Field Compaction Test Report'. MISCELLANEOUS: I asked Mike if any HMA testing was required and he informed me that the city does not require testing of HMA. I departed the site at 1100. At the time of my departure, the paving crew were beginning to place HMA in the tie-in area. HMA was placed in two 2-inch thick lifts and compacted using a vibratory plate and a Bomag BW 900-50 dual steel drum vibratory roller. Tackifier was applied to all surfaces prior to placement of HMA. CONFORMANCE OF THIS ITEM: To the best of the inspector's knowledge, the material tested today was found in conformance with approved plans, specifications and RFIs at the locations tested.
