RE: PLAN REVIEW COMMENTS FOR PLAN CHECK # 2013-0976
SIGN AT 2015TH AVENUE SOUTH, #201
Dear Kirsten,
I have reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division. Before I can
sign off on the permit, however, the following information needs to be clarified in a written
response and through the submittal of revised plans calling out the requested changes:
1. Total sign area: According to ECDC 20.60.025.A.1, the maximum total permanent sign
area in the BD-1 zone is one square foot of signage for each lineal foot of wall containing
the main public entrance. Please determine the length of the south wall occupied by
Edmonds Hardware & Paint and include that distance on the site plan.
2. Boxed cabinet sign: According to the sign code matrix in ECDC 20.60.0201, boxed
cabinet signs such as the proposed "Benjamin Moore" sign are not a permitted sign type
in the Downtown area. Please revise.
3. Design standards: As mentioned above, the site is zoned BD-1 and so the sign design
standards of ECDC 22.43.040.B(8) — (13) apply. Please describe how the proposed
signage satisfies each of the standards.
4. Sign height: Please provide a measurement of the height from the top of the proposed
sign(s) to the ground below.
Sign area: Indicate the total area of the proposed "Edmonds Hardware & Paint" sign.
Each letter may be calculated separately.
6. Time of Illumination: According to ECDC 20.60.020.1-1, no commercial sign shall be
illuminated after 11:00 pm, except that signage may remain lit as long as the business is
open. Please ensure that there is a manual switch or timer designed with the signage to
ensure compliance with this requirement.

You may redline your existing plans or submit three copies of updated plans. Please make all
submittals to a Development Services Permit Coordinator, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to
