We provided a geotechnical engineering study for this project dated January 16, 2015 as well as a
plan review letter dated April 13, 2015. Most recently, our personnel was onsite during the early
earthwork and foundation work for the project. We understand that the City of Edmonds is
requesting a final letter regarding our onsite observations. As such, we have prepared this letter.
Our personnel were onsite in mid-May 2015 at the start of the installation of pipe piles needed for
the foundation of the building. We initially observed at that time excavations of only about a few
feet had been made at the flat site in preparation for the installation of the piles. This excavation
was quite minor and easily kept within the project boundaries.
Our personnel were onsite during the driving of the pile piles needed for the foundation of the
building. In total, 61 pipe piles were installed. Four of the pipe piles were 4 inches in diameter,
while the other 57 were 3 inches in diameter. The piles were driven with an 1100-foot/pound
hammer to a refusal rate of 6 or 10 seconds per inch for the 3 or 4 -inch piles, respectively. The
piles were installed to final depths mostly in the range of 20 to 30 feet. In our opinion, the 3 and 4 -
inch pipe piles were adequately installed to the design capacity of 6 and 10 tons, respectively.
If there are any questions regarding this letter, please contact us.
