INSPECTION OF: Deck Post Pipe Pile Installation
GeoTest was on site to observe the installation of 2-inch diameter pipe piles for the new deck
foundation at the above-referenced address. GeoTest met with Derek Willis (owner) and
Donny (Pile King) on site upon arrival.
The pipe piles consisted of 5-foot long non-galvanized pipe sections that were driven with a
140-pound Rhino hammer. Slip couplers were used to connect pipe sections. The piles were
driven until a refusal rate of 60 seconds or more per inch of penetration was achieved.
A total of 26 pipe piles were installed during our site visit. With the exception of the western pile
of post #13, all piles were installed vertically. Post #13’s western pile was installed at a slight
batter to the west due to the close proximity of the adjacent slope.
The approximate pile depths are given on the attached site plan. Based on our observations, it
is our opinion that the observed piles appear to be adequate for 2 tons per pile allowable
capacity.
