As previously stated (April 19, 2002 Report) soil cuts were geotechnically stable,

as anticipated in the November 12, 2001 Geotechnical Report, Dense, native sands
with gravels were encountered. Excavation complied with City of Edmonds approved
Plans and this engineer's on -site recommendations.
SHORING:
Ecology blocks were properly placed and installed per approved Plans and this
engineer's on -site recommendations. Base block embedment, block linkage, overall
face batter, and drainage zone were properly achieved.

This engineer performed AlU geotechnical inspections during the excavation,

temporary retaining wall, foundation placement, and drainage backfill operations for this
project. The majority of this work occurred during the summer of 2002.
This engineer provided twice monthly inspections from July 2002 through May
19,2004.
Excavation and Grading: The majority of excavation work occurred during April
2002 (see April 19, 2002 Report and photographs). As previously stated, soil

cuts encountered the dense native sands and gravels as anticipated by the
geotechnical investigation and report. All excavation is stable.
Temporary shoring utilizing Ecology -Blocks were placed in accordance with this
engineer's designs and recommendations. All Eco-Block was properly installed
and remained stable through the backfill stage of the project (see June 21, 2002
Report).
After completion of the building, final grading and landscaping was completed.
All excavation and grading met geotechnical recommendations and is approved.
Soil Bearing: As previously discussed, this engineer verified soil bearing to
exceed 3,000 p.s.f. bearing capacity. Subsequent placement of foundation
formwork, reinforcing steel, and foundation concrete complied with geotechnical
recommendations and Project Plans. Soil bearing is approved.
Retaining Wall / Rockery Placement: This engineer verified proper installation of
stem walls functioning as retaining walls (see photographs and previous
inspection reports). Proper drainage was placed outside the footing area of the
retaining walls. Granular backfill was placed outside the retaining wall and
native, relatively clean sands and gravels were also used for backfill. Approved,
Landscaping rockeries were placed to achieve soil stabilization and localized
grading. All rockeries met geotechnical criteria and are approved.
Placement of Fill and Compaction: No structural fill was required for bearing.
Localized areas utilized a minor amount (less than 10 cubic yards) of imported
gravel for construction expediency purposes. As discussed above, retaining
walls were properly backfilled with free draining material and native, relatively
clean sands. All fill material was properly placed and compacted. Approved.
Subsurface Drainage: This engineer verified proper placement of subsurface
drains in accordance with City of Edmonds approved Project Plans and normal
good practices. Additionally, the native sands allow for excellent drainage.
Approved.
Final Erosion Control: This engineers most recent inspection visit (May 19,
2004) verified the proper placement of final erosion control measures
(landscaping, shrubbery, beauty bark, etc.). Approved.
