This engineering report presents the results of geotechnical investigations
regarding the property at 18212 851h pl. W, Edmonds, Washington. These evaluation
were required due to owner / developer concems regarding sub -grade integrity.

BACKGROUND:
The property at 18212 85u' Pl. W is understood to contain "some historic amounts
of fill". The specific location, depth and quality of the historic fill was unknown at the
time of construction.
City of Edmonds issued a permit to Eric Thuesen Custom Homes to construct a
new residence at 18212 85h Pl. W.
During initial excavation work, developer (Eric Thuesen) contacted this engineer
to make geotechnical recommendations regarding foundation designs and sub -grade
suitability.
Excavated soil test pits on March 290 and 30th confirmed the presence of
'A unsuitable and marginally suitable fill material". it appears that someone dumped
construction debris and soil at some historic point on the property. Fill material
consisted of relatively good silty sands and relatively bad segments of organic soil with
wood debris.

This engineer observed a number of soil test pits to investigate the location,
depth and quality of fill material. A number of soil test pits were dug on April 30, 2004 to
determine sub -grade conditions.
The majority of the foundation footprint existed In areas with approximately 4 to 6
feet of marginally suitable fill material. This engineer discussed the options of pile
foundation with reinforced grade beams, or specific over -excavation and compacted
structural fill placement.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Based on the findings of this engineer's geotechnical investigation and
experience with numerous similar properties, the following are recommended:
• In alignment of bearing foundation footings, the histodc fill material must be
removed.
* This engineer to inspect and verify proper depth of over -excavation and
replacement with compacted granular fill.
• This engineer recommends a minimum footing width of 24 inches.
• This engineer recommends a minimum over -excavation with structural backfill of
36inches.
• Ongoing inspections through May 7, 2004 have verified proper compliance with
this engineer's geotechnical recommendations. Inspections are ongoing.
