Recent damage occurred to the front of your garage 1 1 M du p truck that rolled down, the driveway. This truck as a result of impact from a large m M Z .-I dislodged the header beam across the top of the garage door, and is presently providing I . C z temporaxy support to the seco nd level exterior wall. Additional damage includes > --J displacement of the brick siding and the support framing on the north side of the garage door. 0 -n 7n Before the dump truck is moved it is essential that tern porary support members be MM ins talled under the ceiling joists that exten ded out the top of the 6x,12 1 neb bcider beam. 0— am is 161h feet long and is supported at each end by three 2x6 stu&-. This be, 01 r- 0 M Observationsof the ceiling joist area adjacent to the header shows no evidence of downwar d deflection of the joists. The reargate of the truck is providing support in the C W M 0 absence of the header that has been displawd as a result of the truck impaL-L Z I L is mcommended that a temporary support beam be placed about 1 to 2 feet inside the X -4 sts. Existing mec"haniml face of the ga e door and in direct contact with the ceiling joi, rag door will need to be removed to facilitate installation of the X > z arms attached to the garage beam. This beam should be 18 feet in length, 6 inches'wide and 8 inches high, and be X suppoi -led by three 6x6 vertical posts at the ends and the center of this beam. The be(Im 0) z should be tack -nailed to the exposed joists at alternate joistspacing, and met,a I straps 0 -hould be nailed between the 6x6 posts and the support beam. The suppoLt posts may 0 s be placed directly on the concrete floor slab of the garage with each post in slight M compr ession when the ceiling joist loads are transferred to the temporary pos t and beam inst:a1lation. Once the temporary support. beam is in place the dump ti -ack can then be slowly driven away from the front of the garage. Repairs will include replacement of the header beam and the support 2x6studs at the north end. An, inspection will need to be made at the south end to determine if ther e is any damage to these studs and whether replacement is 13203 Holmes Point DfIve NE KIrkland, WA 98034 Fax: 425-814-5672 Phone: 425-814-3970 Consulting Robert M.
