This engineer has provided gift on -site inspections during key geotechnical

activities (excavation, foundation preparation, block wall placement, subsurface
drainage, etc.). At a minimum, one geotechnical visit is performed each week.
X
Soil Cut : As previously reported, all soil cuts encountered dense, native sands.
z
All project excavation cuts were less than 5.0 feet. This engineer assessed the
integrity of the soil cuts and recommended that no shoring be required. All cuts
vi
z
have performed well and are since properly back filled.
Temporary Eco-Block Shoring: No temporary shoring was required due to the
0
M
extremely dense stable sub -grade sands, as discussed above.
Foundation Sub -Grade: Previously verified to provide a minimum of 3,000 p.s.f.
bearing capacity. "OK" to proceed with foundation formwork, reinforcing steel
and concrete per City of Edmonds approved Plans. Contractor successfully
placed foundation concrete in late January 2006. All foundation footings are
geotechnically app d.

Retaining Walls Rocke : The nominal foundation stem walls (less than 5 feet in
ght) function as retaining walls against the native sands. All walls were
properly placed.
This project utilized a number of localized keystone block walls (see Project
Plans and photographs). This engineer provided geotechnical inspections of the
following: base block embeddment, block linkage, overall batter and drainage
zone. All keystone block walls have been properly constructed and are
neotechnically approved.
Fill Placement: No fill required due to the presence of dense native clean sands.
Subsurface Drainage: As previously stated, the native clean sands provide
excellent drainage. Footing drains are not required, nevertheless, contractor
properly installed standard footing drains in accordance with City of Edmonds
approved Plans.
Erosion Control: Contractor properly established a rocked construction entrance
and perimeter siltation fencing during the excavation and foundation phases. All
temporary erosion control measures were properly maintained through the
current date (May 9, 2006).
No significant grading activity has occurred since early April 2006. Work
continues on the interior of the building.
Final Erosion Control: Not yet.
SUMMA
Ongoing geotechnical inspections have verified proper completion of
geotechnical activities to date (May 9, 2006).
The majority of geotechnical items have been completed, pending permanent
erosion ntrol When install this enoineer will provide a final insoection and
issue a report at that time.
If there are any questions, do not hesita to Cali.

RE: 626 Glen St for a Driveway Slope to Exceed 14%
V5 —1

Dear Rob,
M 0
-0
0
This letter is in response to your letter dated October 19, 2005, requesting a driveway
C
q z
X M
slope waiver up to 16% at the above address due to the grade of the existing alley and
M z
grade difference between the alley and your proposed garage.
C
>
E:
After reviewing the drawings, we calculated the driveway slope off the alley at subject
address to between 16.5% and 18.8%. In addition, due to the topographic restraints and
0 -n
building height limit, it would be impossible to raise the grade of the garage slab enough
to keep the driveway slope under 14% and it would also take significant reconstruction of
in m
the alley and surrounding properties to bring the driveway grade into compliance.
0 ca
0
Since the access is serving just two units from a Public street, we have determined it is
0 m
a)
(4
similar to a driveway, exterior to a garage, serving a duplex ( which is considered as a
m 0
single family residence) and therefore has a maximum driveway slope of 14 % and
;a
waiveable up to 20%.
Based on the above determination and site topographi c limitations, we hereby grant your
z
request for a driveway slope waiver up to 19%.
Sincerely,
