During review of the subject submittal it was found that the following information, corrections, or
clarifications will need to be addressed:
1.ok
2.9/25/06 - Engineering has received the section details of both the rockery and retaining wall, but has not
received the calculations supporting the designs. These requirements were specifically noted in the Plan
Review Comments dated July 7:
“The proposed retaining wall on the uphill side of the driveway is both within a Critical Area and is 7
feet in height, each characteristic in itself triggering the requirement for an engineering peer review.
The City notes that the retaining wall verbage within the Geothech’s report is of a generic nature and
not specificically addressed to the planned retaining wall, and does not address the criteria of
Edmonds Community Development Code 23.80.070. Please submit the design and calculations
specific to this wall, stamped by a licensed engineer for peer review. A retaining wall handout is
included for your convenience.
“The proposed rockeries, while four feet or less in height, nonetheless exist in a Critical Area and the
must be met:
following additional submittal parameters
Two copies of section and elevation views must be submitted and be stamped by a licensed
professional engineer.
specific to the proposed rockeries
Two copies of design calculations must be submitted and be
stamped by a licensed engineer.
A letter from the geotechnical engineer addressing the criteria of ECDC 23.80.070.
10/18/06 –The retaining wall & drainage plan on file with the City, labeled as Sheet A2,
provides a detail plan for a 7’ high retaining wall as well as a rockery. I understand the
rockery has been revised to be a 4’ high retaining wall and a detail for this is provided on
Sheet A as well as calcs. It is unclear if the 7’ high retaining wall is to remain or if it too is to
be revised to be a height of 4’.

Sheet A2 needs to be revised to accurately show what is to be constructed on the project site.
Each detail is to be labeled and referenced on the site plan so it is clear which detail applies to
what element of the project. The rockery detail needs to be omitted if it no longer applies to
the project.
If the 7’ high retaining wall is to remain then we are still awaiting design calcs in order to send
to peer review. If this retaining wall is to be revised to 4’ in height then the top and bottom
wall elevations on the site plan as well as the site grading will need to be adjusted accordingly.
