RE: Emergency Shoring Calais Apartment Carport @ 555 Walnut Street
Dear Mr. Heinzig,
GARY HAAKENSON
MAYOR
Thank you for meeting with me today at City Hall and providing a draft letter and temporary
shoring plans dated July 28, 2006 for the Calais Apartment carport at 555 Walnut Street in
Edmonds. Your letter indicates that a portion of the carport is in danger of rotational collapse
and that emergency shoring must be installed immediately. You have provided an emergency
shoring plan that details what must be done by the owner/contractor including temporary
installation of two glu-lam beams, supporting posts, removing portions of carport roofing and
removal of some soil behind the retaining wall.
You have also indicated that use of one-half of the carport building is restricted to construction
materials and workers only and that tenants may not enter or use any portion of the carport area
under repair. The owner shall take proper precaution to be assured that no tenants or guests of
tenants violate this condition.
Special inspection of temporary shoring shall be performed by your office, please sign and return
the attached Special Inspection form. All field reports shall be faxed to the City immediately
once the emergency shoring is complete. No other work shall be performed on this project until
the City issues a building repair permit. A final letter regarding temporary shoring shall be
provided to the City stamped and signed by you as the design professional.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this temporary shoring approval.
On a side note the City is due to review the carport repair plans by August 3, 2006.
Sincerely,
Jeannine L.IUO
