Barbera, P.E. and Construction Codes Consultant Date: October 4, 2006 Re: Results of the Review of the Shoring, Retaining Wall and Grading Plans Discussion As I indicated in a phone message last Friday, the shoring, grading and structural changes you sent me are almost approved pending a solution to the few items below, which have now been confirmed: 1. No rockeries can be used to support fill in Edmonds. These are shown in sketch form on.- Sheets n: Sheets 4F, 13, & 22 of 30 by the southwest corner of Building 6 along the southerly portion of the driveway_ ✓ They are also shown in sketch form on Sheet SH2O of the Shoring plans_ ✓ One is also shown in specific form on the Sanitary Sewer Water Profile Sheet 28 at SSCO 15H. 2. So they need to be removed and, in fact, DCI Engineers designed the new retaining walls to replace those rockeries that were on the lid above the parking structure. 3. The DCl Structural Engineer, .aim Brink, assures me that the prestressed plans have the correct location of the tendons especially for those retaining walls shown on Sheet S4.2 because they are controlling the weight of the soils by filling the lower T height with lightweight foam plastic material. 4. The retaining wall details need to be cross referenced on the grading plans. 5. Mr. Brink needs to show drainage on the structural plans to indicate how the three foot high soil mass is drained and therefore, there isn't any water pressure surcharge from saturated soil. 5_ Mr_ Brink is going to justify the 0.4 friction factor between the concrete retaining wall and . concrete prestressed slab, which still needs to be submitted_
