RE: Plan Check #2006-1145
Project: Calais Multi -family --Residing
Project Address: 1115 4"' Ave S
During review of the plans/documents for the above noted project, it was found that the following
information, clarifications or changes are needed. Please submit written responses to the comments below,
including where changes can be found on the plans, and 2 sets of revised plans/documents (affected sheets
only) to Theresa Umbaugh, Permit Coordinator.
1. Exterior walls, deck floor -ceilings, deck roof -ceilings, and soffits must be 1 -hour fire rated. Provide
listed and tested 1 -hour assembly for each, including details and listing references (e.g. from IBC
Chapter 7 tables, Gypsum Association, UL, etc.). Provide floor plans and building sections to clearly
show where the assembly details apply.
2. Clarify if any interior sheetrock will be removed as part of this permit. If so, clearly show/describe the
locations, clearly show the 1 -hour fire rated assemblies, insulate the exposed wall and ceiling cavities
with insulation to the maximum extent possible (for example, R-15 for 2x4 walls), and fire stop all
penetrations of fire rated assemblies.
3. Clearly note/show on the plans if window and door sizes will be reduced or enlarged in size. If they will
change in size, clearly show on the plans minimum sleeping room egress requirements, natural
light/ventilation requirements, headers, etc.
4. On deck guard detail 6f/WP001 dimension the minimum height of the guard from the finished floor of
the deck.
5. The Planning Division is requesting paint samples of the proposed exterior colors, and color photos of
the existing building. Please contact Gina Coccia, Planner, if you have questions.
Prior to final Building inspection/occupancy, the Building Enclosure Inspector must submit a signed
letter certifying that the building enclosure has been inspected in substantial compliance with the
building enclosure design documents.
Where phasing of construction occurs, coordinate inspection with the City Building Inspector to insure
that all required inspections are performed. Inspection by the building enclosure inspector to meet EHB-
1848 does not substitute for required City building inspections which must be performed by the City
Building Inspector.
We ate still waiting for the daily special inspection reports to be submitted by your Engineer of Record
for the carport repair and retaining wall construction. He noted in his last correspondence that this
would be submitted by 10/20/06. We have not received them. Please provide copies upon receipt of
this letter.
