Please redline plans or submit three (3) sets of revised plans/documents (affected sheets only) with a written response to each of the items below to a Permit Coordinator. 1) Please clarify scope of work to be covered under this project. Plans show specification for canopy. Will this be a new canopy. Sign locations were drawn on one of the plans with x marks which would indicate that they are located on the building and not the canopy. Please clarify and provide complete accurate sign plans and cross off all information that does not apply to this project. See attached Sign handout for minimum plan requirements. Sign Permit Submittal Requirements PERMIT REQUIRED: A permit is required for the installation of new signs (monument, cabinet, pole, lettering, wall graphics or identification structures, etc.). Each sign requires a separate sign permit. DEFINITION: A sign is a display that is intended to convey a message to the public and/or attract attention to the goods or services provided by an enterprise, including wall graphics or identification structures. EXEMPT WORK: The following is exempt from sign permits: replacing the panel on a previously permitted existing wall cabinet or pole sign, repainting an existing permitted wood sign, and painted window signs. STREET USE OR ENCROACHMENT: Signs or similar projections such as awnings, canopies, marquees, or other architectural features that project in, on, over or under any public place (such as a street, alley, or sidewalk) are required to obtain an Encroachment Permit or Street Use Permit in addition to a sign permit. (See Handouts #E26 or 41E75) CODES: Edmonds Community Development Code (ECDC) 18.70, 20.10 & 20.60 International Building Code (IBC) Appendix H (Current Edition) FEE: $110 per sign plus $15 City permit surcharge fee SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Architectural Design Board approval or Planning administrative staff approval (See Handout #P7) 2. Proposed sign design (drawn to scale) show sign dimensions and materials used —Three (3) copies 3. Colored rendering of the proposed sign colors - One (1) copy 4. Scaled elevation view of the building exterior, show all existing signage and lineal front footage of storefront — when applicable provide three (3) copies 5. Connection detail for hanging signs, cabinet signs or lettering, etc. 6. For freestanding monument or pole signs provide three (3) site plans showing sign location, a footing detail, and wind load calculations for signs greater than 6 feet in height 7. Provide wattage for illuminated signs; note, underground wiring is required NOTE: THE PURPOSE OF THIS HANDOUT IS TO ASSIST THE PUBLIC IN COMPLYING WITH DETAILED PERMIT SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS.
