Dear Applicant,
I have reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division and it was found that the
following information, corrections, or clarifications will need to be addressed before review can continue:
Please note that in the setback area, the maximum height of these walls shall not exceed three feet, as
measured from top of wall to original grade. I compared the original grade to the wall heights provided
and need the following changed to meet the code.
Height of Fence:
1. Pursuant to Edmonds Community Development Code chapter 17.30.000.D, it
appears that the fence you are proposing is too tall. How would you like to proceed? If necessary,
please revise your retaining wall permit as well.
ECDC 17.30.000.D When a retaining wall three feet in height or greater is contiguous to
and below a proposed fence, the proposed fence may be constructed for the purposes of
safety not greater than four feet above the top of the retaining wall or the finished grade,
whichever is less, without the necessity for a variance. \[Ord. 3491 § 3, 2004; Ord. 2954 §
1, 1993; Ord. 2772 § 1, 1990\].
Thank you for your cooperation. Please provide a written response to the above mentioned items. And,
please redline your plans to reflect any changes – or, if you are submitting new plans, please submit 3
site plans (one must be reduced size) and 2 sets of the changed pages of the plans. Please make all
submittals to the Development Services Permit Coordinator (Theresa Umbaugh) Monday through Friday,
