RE: Building Permit Application No. BLD20070775
Dear Ms. Ubinger,
GARY HAAKENSON
MAYOR
August 16, 2007
Last month I spoke with you about your 1989 addition/remodel project and was very candid about the
difficulties in attempting to gain required progress inspections for this work. First, of all your permit has long
since expired. Second, you failed to call for required inspections and you have indicated that the work is 100%
complete. Third, any permit that the City issues today must conform in all aspects to the current 2006 State
adopted building codes.
For the record, in 1989 you obtained a building permit (reference 890473) to construct a second story addition
and build an attached garage, the only record of inspections performed on this permit was a 8/7/90 rough -in
plumbing approval and a 4/19/90 partial framing approval that states, `upper level partition walls and roof ok to
cover.' No other inspections are noted in the City permit records. if you have any information contrary to this,
you should immediately provide copies to the City for review and confirmation.
The plans that you submitted to the City on 7/24/07 are dated 1988 thus we presume these are copies of the
plans for permit 890473. As I explained to you in July, it is impossible for you to obtain inspection approval
today for work that was performed more than a decade ago as your permit has long since expired. It is
impossible, as well as negligent, for the City to grant inspection approval for work that we cannot see (i.e.,
framing covered with sheetrock and siding, poured footings and walls etc.).
You are hereby instructed to submit plans meeting the current edition of the 2006 International Residential Code
and 2006 State EnergyNentilation Code. Plans must be redesigned to meet current codes and structural
calculations (lateral and gravity) are required for the building and must be stamped and signed by a State
licensed professional engineer. Please follow the City Remodel/Addition handout so that the future plan
submittal is compliant to our minimum permit submittal requirements. You are also required to complete
worksheets contained in the City's Energy handout. Copies of handouts enclosed for your convenience.
Your permit application (BLD2007-0775) will expire on 1/24/08, prior to that time the future resubmitted plans
will have to be in compliance with current building codes or the permit shall not be issued_
Sincerely,
Jeannine L. Graf
