These inspections were required as a condition of permit by City of Edmonds. Discussions with City of Edmonds August 6, 2007 verify the owner of the property to be Linda Fenton. REFERENCES: • City of Edmonds approved Project Plans • Geotechnical and Inspection Reports by D. Bruce, P.E. • Site photographs INSPECTIONS: This engineer continues to provide on-site geotechnical inspections (daily during key geotechnical activities). At a minimum, 1 inspection visit is provided each week. Ci1tTof Edmonds Inspection Items; • Soil Cuts: As previously reported, all excavation for the house foundation has Been stable through this date (August 6, 2007) and properly backfilled. This engineer has recently examined soil cuts for the driveway 1 sidewalk zone, as well as the frontage Alpine rockery. Specific on-site geotechnical recommendations have been made to project superintendent (Kelley Marriott). SOILS • FOUNDATIONS • SITE DEVELOPMENT • INSPECTION • DRAINAGE • DESIGN & PERMIT s LEGAL P.O. It is understood that Kelley Marriott will resubmit modified project plans to City of Edmonds for review of the driveway slope stabilization measures. Eco -Block shoring: Not required, as previously discussed. • Sub -Grade Verification: Previously verified to meet 2,500 p.s.f. bearing capacity. All residence foundation footings were properly placed in accordance with City of Edmonds approved plans. • Rockeries: This engineer has evaluated existing rockeries (as of August 6, 2007). These rockeries have been placed adjacent the sidewalk zone, and at the eastern portion of the site (see photographs). Additionally, rockeries have been placed at the lower portion of the site (southerly). Geotechnical inspections are ongoing to verify site rockeries. Discussions (July 31, 2007) on-site with K. Marriott and B&D Rockeries have resulted in the geotechnical recommendation for additional rockeries to stabilize the steep western slope of the access driveway (see photographs). Portions of the driveway side slope exceed the permanent stable declination of 3H:1 V. In all areas where side slopes are steeper than 3H:1 V, additional slope stabilization is required. This engineer recommends that the preliminary, geotechnical design utilize a 4 to 5 -foot high rockery near the top of the driveway slope. Solid embedment in dense, sub -grade soils is required. Continuous geotechnical inspection is required to verify: excavations, sub -grade bearing capacity, condition for structural fill, rockery embedment, rock linkage, batter and drainage zone. A portion of the western driveway slope near the entrance currently has "haphazard" riprap strewn on the slope. This condition is not acceptable as a permanent stabilization measure. •2, oil 0 WMMM nif ill .9 40 WIM Auguest 6, 2007 Page 3 Additional rockeries (properly designed and inspected) are required in the vicinity of the haphazard riprap. a I -t - 0 1 0 0 # * Subsurface Drainage: Verified and approved for the residence itself. Inspections continue for the slope stabilization measures. Erosion Control: Temporary erosions control measures are approved, through WL gust 6, 2007. Inspections are ongoing.
