RE: 804 — 9th Ave S, Permit BLD20060995, Driveway Slope Exceeding 14%
Dear Ms. Helleren,
This is in response to your letter dated October 17, 2007 requesting approval to exceed
the rnaximun-i allowed driveway slope of 14% for the lower portion of the driveway at the
above address, to a slope not to exceed 18%. The noted driveway is for a secondary
access to the rear of the lot, and not for primary ingress / egress. Review of site
conditions show an existing accessway, directly abutting and paralleling the proposed
driveway. Adding fill to reduce the proposed driveway's slope would create two drives
with a sharp change in grade at the property line which would be a safety hazard, and
Would also require an engineered retaining wall to support the upper travelled way.
Actual field conditions in this case show that the 14% slope has been achieved
throughout the upper drive, where most traffic is expected to occur.
Given the above considerations, your request to exceed a driveway slope of 14%, but not
more than 18% is therefore approved.
