RE: 17909 fairer Dr.
Driveway Slope Exceeding 20%
Dear Mr. Miller,
This letter is being sent in response to your email dated March 31, 2008 requesting
approval to exceed the maximumdriveway slope allowance up to 24.6%. The portion of
driveway needing this slope allowance is an approximately 5 ft section where the access
road turns to the left up the east side of the home. The steeper slope is needed due to
incorrect location of utilities from the original Vista Del Mar plat files.
It is understood that the location of the utilities were shown incorrectly on the plat Files
used to create the civil plans for this home and the four surrounding homes, three of
which access offof an casement road provided on this property. When the access road
was put in there was a driveway slope waiver for 20% given for the first 66ft, with the
remaining drive to meet a 14% slope per City of Edmonds driveway waiver letter dated
April 3, 2006. It is also understood that when construction began on this house, it was
found that the utilities were too shallow at the top of the drive to feed this house without
raising the driveway of this house over 20%,
Your solution to the shallow utilities was to increase the slope of the driveway to 17909
fairer over a roughly 5ft area to a maximurn of 24.6% to create the required cover over
the utilities. Other options to correct this problem would cause major issues for the other
homes accessing the road. If the utilities in the driveway were lowered to achieve proper
driveway slope, all of the utilities in the access road would have to, be lowered as well.
The other option of increasing the grade of the upper part of the access road would then
increase the slope of the other connecting driveways.
For the reasons stated above, your request for a driveway slope waiver not to exceed
24.6% for a 5ft area of the driveway shown on the attached map, exhibit B, has been
Incorporated August 11, 1890
Sister City -- Flekinan, Japan
approved. The remainder of the driveway shall he graded to meet the standard required
driveway slope of 14% or less.
Sincerely,
ID K. GEBERWTr, P.E.
