Curb Subgrade Compaction

We were onsite at the request of Carries Rockeries to evaluate compaction of curb subgrade.
The contractor informed us that sod had been. removed fi-om;. the area of the planned curb line along the
east side of the property and existing subgrade needed to be verified as meeting 95 percent compaction.
We hand excavated two holes within the curb line and observed that approximately 4 to 6 inches of fill
material consisting of brown silty line to coarse sand with gravel and trace organics overlaid native
brown silty fine to medium sand with gravel. We probed the - fill subgrade along the curb line and the
native soils within the test holes and the probe rod did not penetrate more than an inch in depth. We
then evaluated compaction of the fill soils with a nuclear density gauge,
It is our opinion the evaluated curb subgrade is firm and unyielding and density test indicate that 95
percent compaction was achieved.
