RE: Plan Check: 2009-0142
Project: One Ballard Revision
th
Project Address: 610 5 Ave S.
During review of the plans for the above noted project, it was found that the following information,
clarifications or changes are needed. Please provide written responses as to where the changes can be found
on the plans, and submit revised plans/documents to Theresa Umbaugh, Senior Permit Coordinator. Thank
you.
1.IBC 1015.2.1 requires that exit doorways and exit access doorways be separated by a distance
equal to one half the overall diagonal of the floor or space, respectively. The proposed revision
to delete the enclosed exit stairway and build a new ground floor hallway to provide access to
the second exit creates an arrangement where the second exit does not provide the necessary
separation between said exit and the exit doors for Units D and E. Please provide a letter from
the architect justifying the reasons why the stairway proposed and approved in the original
drawings is now being deleted. This stairway was to serve as a required second exit for the
lower floor level.
2.The length of “common path of travel” within the hall exceeds the maximum 75 feet allowable.
Common path of travel is that portion of exit access which the occupants are required to traverse
before two separate and distinct paths of egress travel to two exits are available. Please adjust
the configuration/length of the hallway to meet this maximum length. IBC 1014.3
3.Please provide a wet-signed stamped copy of revised drawings.
