The proposed project requires a Design Review. Projects that remain under the SEPA threshold
are reviewed by staff with the building permit and the design review is considered an
administrative Staff Decision subject to the requirements of ECDC 20.60 (Sign Code) and is a
Type I decision pursuant ECDC 20.01.003.A.
Analysis;
Location. The project site is located at 300 Admiral Way. The site is zoned CW — Commercial
Waterfront. The site is also located within the Downtown Activity Center Comprehensive Plan
Overlay.
2. Sign type. Two signs are shown in the application material, a window and a wall sign. Only the wall
sign requires the building permit. The proposed sign is an non -illuminated wall sign which is a
permitted sign type in the Downtown Activity Center.
3. Size. Sites within the CW zone are permitted 1 square foot of sign area per lineal foot of wall
containing the main public entrance. The business space where the sign will be located is octagonal
in shape. To determine the frontage to calculate the permitted sign area, the distance across the
visible sides when facing the main entrance was used. Three sides of the octagon are visible when
facing the main entrance. The lineal distance between the two outside points is approximately 30
feet, therefore the maximum permitted sign area allowed is 30 square feet. The proposal is for a 34.5
inch by 24 inch sign or 5.75 square feet.
4. Color. The proposed sign color of a green and blue with white lettering w is acceptable.
5. Height. Pursuant to ECDC 20.60.030.B, the maximum height of a sign is 14 feet or the height of the
face of the building. The proposed sign will be placed below a window adjacent to the entrance,
which is well below 14 feet or the height of the face of the building.
Decision:
Based on the facts and conclusions of this report, staff finds that the design review for this project (File
No. BLD -2009-0512 is APPROVED.

appealable decision under the provisions of the ECDC. Design review by staff is not in itself an
appealable decision.
