The city has received complaints regarding recent handrail alterations performed to the front entry
stairs and ramp at the El Capitan Condominiums. A site visit was performed by the city building
inpector on August 3, 2012, upon which it was evident that changes had indeed been made to the
railing configurations. It is also apparent that these changes do not meet current building code
requirements, and a check of City records indicates that a building permit required for this work has
not been obtained.
In order to avoid possible code enforcement actions, you are hereby required to obtain a building
permit for the work, the scope of which will include any alterations or additions necessary to meet
current code. The building permit shall be applied for no later than August 24, 2012, and the
permitted work shall be completed within 30 days of obtaining the permit.
Be aware that a plan drawing will be required along with your permit application. The plan shall
show the ramp and stairs at the front entry along with details and dimensions for the handrails
sufficient to show compliance with chapter 10 of the International Building Code.
