I have reviewed the resubmittal from for the aforementioned property. The use a splash block and a
30 ft vegetated path is acceptable for the 479 square foot addition. The runoff from the addition must
be directed to a well-established lawn, established ground cover, or native vegetation. The
vegetation must be dense enough to help disperse and infiltrate ( to the limit of the soils), such that
erosion does not occur. I understand that the yard will be torn up during construction then re -
vegetated. Prior to re -establishments of the vegetation, appropriate measures must be in place to
prevent erosion.
The owner should consider using a compost amended topsoil mix that will improve the water holding
capacity of the site. This general consists of a topsoil layer with a minimum organic matter content
of ten percent dry weight in planting beds, and 5%
organic matter content in turf areas, The topsoil layer should have a minimum depth of eight inches
sub -soils below the topsoil layer should be scarified at least 4 inches with some incorporation of the
upper material to avoid stratified layers, where feasible. More information can be found at the
Department of Ecology's soil standard at http://www.soilsforsalmon.org/pdf/Soil BMP Manual.pdf
