RE: Plan Check: 2O14'0ZO4
Project Name: Jacobson Retaining Wall
Project Address: 1814084`^Ave VVEdmonds, VVA
Dear Leif,
Ll
Itemized below is our response to the plan review comments dated April 2, 2014 for the
above referenced project. Our response appears inbold.
1. On sheet S1,1 the code reference should be to the 2012 IBC, not 2009.
The code references have been updated and calculations have been reviewed for 2012
IBC. The calculations are acceptable for current code.
2. In the structural calculations (starting on sheet 20) it appears that the load combination
used for the lagging design use equations from the 2009 IBC and not the 2012 IBC. Please
ensure that the design meets the current code.
Lagging is adequate. Please refer to attached calculation.
3. In the geotechnical report by Galli, please clarify the use of the term "axial" to describe
the capacity of the pipe piles on page 11, item #2. Is this truly axial loading or is it a gravity
loading?

4. The geotechnical report mentions the use ofhelical anchors; however, novalues are
provided for the structural design.
S. Please provide a statement from Galli to confirm their review of the final design and
construction documents, as recommended on page 13 of the geotechnical report.

6. On sheet S2.1 it appears that detail 4 should be entitled Pipe Pile/Grade Beam Profile instead of Soldier
Pile Wall Profile. Please make the necessary changes,
7. The structural calculations and plans call fnrJ'inch pipe pile, however the recommendation in the
geotechnical report is for 3 -inch pipe piles. Please reconcile this difference, and if the 2-inchpiles are to
be used, provide a design capacity for these.
8. Please confirm that the vehicle surcharge for the driveway has been considered in the design of the
soldier pile wall.
Vehicle surcharge was used for the piles and lagging. Refer to pile design in the original calculations
and additional lagging calculations.
if you have any questions or comments regarding the responses to this review please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
