The following comments, deficiencies/corrections must be addressed prior to completion of plan review and subsequent issuance of permits. Provide revised plans and calculations along with a written response to each of the items listed below to facilitate a shorter back-check time. A response to correction must be provided to the city within 90 days of the date of this letter or the permit application may be cancelled without notice. SCOPE OF REVIEW Fire Prevention requirements. The scope of this review is for the of this project The project was reviewed for compliance with the State of Washington Building Codes. All features were checked only to the extent allowed by the submittals provided. All portions of this project are assumed to meet or will meet other departmental requirements, conditions and concerns before permit approval. FIRE COMMENTS General: 1.Both the plans and hydraulic calculations make reference to the 2007 version of NFPA 13. As of July 1, 2013 the design of sprinkler systems within the State of Washington are to conform to the 2010 version of NFPA 13 as referenced in the 2012 IFC. 2.No information for sizing the dry pipe system was provided as required by Section 7.2.3 of NFPA 13. Please clarify. EECE Project #: EDM 14-03 Page 2 of 2 3.Please clarify how “supervision” will be provided in accordance with Section 7.3.2.4.1 of NFPA 13. 4.Please confirm that the Gast 5LCA-22-M550NGX air compressor will provide an air supply source at all times and that it can meet the 30-minute fill requirement for the system as required by Section 7.2.6.2 of NFPA 13. Sheet 1: 5.While this sheet lists two types of sprinklers that will be kept in the spare sprinkler cabinet it appears that four types of sprinkler heads will be used. Section 6.2.9 of NFPA 13 requires a minimum of two sprinklers of each type to be kept onsite. 6.Please note in the “Riser Detail” the kind and location of the alarm bell as required by Section 22.1.3(26) of NFPA 13. Material data should be provided for this alarm and it should comply with the requirements of Section 6.9.2.2 of NFPA 13. 7.Please confirm that a floor drain is provided in the fire riser room so as to comply with Section 8.16.2.4.4. Sheet 2: 8.Some rooms are shown on the plans (i.e. storage, restroom, etc.) while others may not be specified. Section 22.1.3 of NFPA 13 requires all rooms, their sizes and their heights to be shown on the plans. It appears that some of these rooms are not sprinklered but may require it based upon size and use. 9.Please clarify on the plans how 2-inch branch lines will be restrained as required by Section 9.3.6 of NFPA 13. Sway Bracing Calculations: 10.The lateral sway bracing calculations provided consider 3-inch diameter supply pipe while 4-inch is specified on the plans. In addition, they consider a bolted connection rather than a Tolco 828 as shown on Sheet 2. Please revise. Additional corrections may be required following receipt of corrections and additional information as requested. Your plans may also be reviewed concurrently by other departments within the City of Edmonds. Changes, clarifications or additional corrections may be required subsequent to the reviews performed by these other departments.
