FIRE COMMENTS
General:
1.Both the plans and hydraulic calculations make reference to the 2007 version of
NFPA 13. As of July 1, 2013 the design of sprinkler systems within the State of
Washington are to conform to the 2010 version of NFPA 13 as referenced in the
2012 IFC.
2.No information for sizing the dry pipe system was provided as required by Section
7.2.3 of NFPA 13. Please clarify.

3.Please clarify how supervision will be provided in accordance with Section
7.3.2.4.1 of NFPA 13.
4.Please confirm that the Gast 5LCA-22-M550NGX air compressor will provide an
air supply source at all times and that it can meet the 30-minute fill requirement for
the system as required by Section 7.2.6.2 of NFPA 13.
Sheet 1:
5.While this sheet lists two types of sprinklers that will be kept in the spare sprinkler
cabinet it appears that four types of sprinkler heads will be used. Section 6.2.9 of
NFPA 13 requires a minimum of two sprinklers of each type to be kept onsite.
6.Please note in the Riser Detail the kind and location of the alarm bell as required
by Section 22.1.3(26) of NFPA 13. Material data should be provided for this alarm
and it should comply with the requirements of Section 6.9.2.2 of NFPA 13.
7.Please confirm that a floor drain is provided in the fire riser room so as to comply
with Section 8.16.2.4.4.
Sheet 2:
8.Some rooms are shown on the plans (i.e. storage, restroom, etc.) while others may
not be specified. Section 22.1.3 of NFPA 13 requires all rooms, their sizes and
their heights to be shown on the plans. It appears that some of these rooms are not
sprinklered but may require it based upon size and use.
9.Please clarify on the plans how 2-inch branch lines will be restrained as required
by Section 9.3.6 of NFPA 13.
Sway Bracing Calculations:
10.The lateral sway bracing calculations provided consider 3-inch diameter supply
pipe while 4-inch is specified on the plans. In addition, they consider a bolted
connection rather than a Tolco 828 as shown on Sheet 2. Please revise.
Additional corrections may be required following receipt of corrections and additional
information as requested.
Your plans may also be reviewed concurrently by other departments within the City of
Edmonds. Changes, clarifications or additional corrections may be required subsequent to
the reviews performed by these other departments. Should you have any inquiries
regarding this letter, please contact Chris Kimball at (801) 682-5031 or by email at
