In response to your letter dated October :16, 2014, 1 am submitting revised plans with permit
corrections #3 and a copy of your review showing where the clarifications can be found.
In response to itern # 5, water service shut off valve, there is a problem separating water shut
off between the 2 units. Since both units share the hot water tank and it is located in the ADU
with the main water shut off, the primary residence (upstairs unit) does riot have a shut off that
meets the requirements of UPC 605.2. 1 am proposing that I use the street water meter as an
emergency shut off for the primary residence.

During a review of the plans by the Building Division for the above noted project, it was found that
the following information, clarifications, or changes are needed. A complete review cannot be
performed until the revised plans/docurnents, including a written response indicating where (tie
`clouded' or otherwise highlighted changes can be found on the revised plans, have been submitted
to a Permit Coordinator. Reviews by other divisions, such as Planning, Engineering, or Fire, may
result in additional coju.nients.
Non-structural Items
Sheet A2.02 (Level 1):
1. Please add a carbon monoxide detector outside of and in the vicinity of the sleeping rooms
per IRC 8315.
2. Verify that exhaust fans are in place where required by IRC Table M1507.4 including in the
kitchen, bathroom and (as already shown) in the laundry room.
3. Please indicate which fire -rated assembly will be used to obtain the minimum 1 -hour fire
rating between the dwelling units (as has been done regarding the floor/ceiling assembly).
4� Note on the plans that all through penetrations and/or membrane penetrations shall comply
with IRC R302.4.
5. Indicate on the plans the location of the water service shut off valve, which must be equally
accessible at all times to occupants of both dwelling units per UPC 605.2,

6. Verify that the stair width is a minimurn of 36" wide and a hand rail is in place per WC

7. Verify that the porch along the west elevation of the structure is less than 30" above the
