2014-1166 Whirlyball Awning.pdf City of Edmonds PLAN REVIEW COMMENTS BUILDING DIVISION (425) 771-0220 DATE: November 26, 2014 TO: Whirlyball Tom Choquette Email: whirlyballedmonds@gmail.com FROM: Leif Bjorback, Building Official RE: Plan Check: 2014-1166 Project: Whirlyball Awning Project Address: 23401 Highway 99 During review of the plans for the above noted project, it was found that the following information, clarifications or changes are needed. Please provide written responses as to where the changes can be found on the plans, and submit revised plans/documents to a permit coordinator in the Development Services Department. Thank you. 1.Please clarify the dimension of the roof overhang, from the support beam to the outer edge of the roof. There are discrepancies within the plan set, i.e. the site plan shows the overhang as included in the 10 foot dimension, yet the details and elevations show the beam line at 10 feet. Please add dimensions sufficient to clearly identify the distance from the building to the beam line and the length of rafter overhang beyond the beam. 2.Please clarify the actual dimensions of the glu-lam beams. The plan shows 4x8 but this is not a commonly available size for glu-lams. Without the net size of the beams (and the dimension of the roof overhang as in the previous item) I am unable to verify the sufficiency of the beams. Please also verify that the selected size will be adequate to support the design load of the roof. 3.In detail A-1 on sheet S-1, the post holder part number is not legible. 4.In detail A-1 on sheet S-1, the 12 inch wide footings appear to be too small. Please either increase the width of the footings or increase the number of support columns to decrease the design load on each footing. 5.In detail A-4, specify the spacing of the ½ x 7 anchor bolts attaching the roof ledger to the concrete wall. 6.Specify in the details a rafter clip tying the rafters to the beams. 7.Indicate on the plans that the 4x6 columns are pressure treated (since they will be exposed to the weather.)
