2015-0043 Channel Marker TI 3- BO.pdf City of Edmonds PLAN REVIEW COMMENTS BUILDING DIVISION (425) 771-0220 DATE: February 10, 2015 TO: Brent Minster bkminster@earthlink.net FROM: Chuck Miller, Plans Examiner RE: Plan Check: BLD2015-0043 Project: Channel Marker TI Project Address: 120 W Dayton Street #D1 During a review of the plans by the Building Division for the above noted project, it was found that the following information, clarifications, or changes are needed. A complete review cannot be performed until the revised plans/documents, including a written response indicating where the ‘clouded’ or otherwise highlighted changes can be found on the revised plans, have been submitted to a Permit Coordinator. Reviews by other divisions, such as Planning, Engineering, or Fire, may bold result in additional comments. Items that recur on this list appear in anditalics. On sheet A-3.1 – New Floor Plan: 1.Indicate on the plans the required 1-hour fire-resistance rated wall construction for the separation of occupancies along the south and west walls by the pool tables per IBC Table Include the UL design 508.4. The walls must be constructed as fire barriers per IBC 707. number (or equivalent alternative) and the required fasteners and their spacing for the attachment of the gypsum wallboard to guide proper construction and inspection. The response to the prior plan review comment regarding the construction criteria of the 1 hour fire-resistance rated walls along the south and west area by the pool tables does not appear to result in an assembly meeting the requirements of ASTM E119/UL 263. Typically, a required fire-resistance rated wall assembly using the preferred, or utilizing the existing construction materials is selected from the Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) library or the Gypsum Association (GA) ‘Fire Resistance Design Manual’. The UL design or GA file number will include the required framing members (including spacing), the type, thickness, orientation, number of layers, and offset of the gypsum wallboard, and the methods, required fasteners and their spacing used to attach the gypsum wallboard. All of this information needs to be listed on the plans to guide the proper construction and inspection of the fire barrier. The fire barrier shall extend from the floor to the underside of the roof sheathing and be securely attached. The fire barrier must be continuous through any concealed space, such as the space above a suspended ceiling.
