Date: June 2, 2015

Following for your consideration are responses to the ESD Woodway Elementary
Renovations Wastewater Treatment Plant / Pretreatment Plan Review Comments #1
submitted to us May 6, 2015.
1.
The current grease collection device on site serving the prewash sink alone is a Goslyn
Separator. According to staff, this Goslyn Separator has not functioned for about a
year. This is no surprise since it has components that fail and plugs with grease if
manufacturers recommended daily maintenance is not performed.
Response provided by Barbara Lloyd, Food .Service Director, Edmonds School
District:
Edmonds School District (ESD) has the same Goslyn Grease Separators at many of our
schools and are using them very successfully. ESD has daily and weekly procedures
(Food Service/Custodial) that keep them clean and functioning well. It appears that
the current tenants may not have been following the manufacturer's recommended
cleaning and maintenance schedule. The ESD Maintenance department will
investigate the grease separator and address the plugged drains.
2.
The 3 -comp sink waste is currently directed to the sanitary sewer and not to the
Goslyn Interceptor.
Response provided by Barbara Lloyd, Food Service Director, Edmonds .School
District:
Edmonds School District Maintenance Department will connect the 3 -compartment
sink to the grease separator.
3.
According to staff, all drains serving fixtures in the kitchen are completely plugged or
partially plugged. This is only to inform you of the current state of corrosion in the
kitchen's underground plumbing.
Response provided by Barbara Lloyd, Food .service Director, Edmonds .School
District:
See response to item 9 above.

4.
Pretreatment strongly recommends installing a more reliable in -floor grease collection
devise for this kitchen. This devise does not require daily maintenance but it will
require regular cleaning or pumping out when the collected grease and sedimentation
reaches 25% of the total collected volume.
Response provided by Barbara Lloyd, Food Service Director, Edmonds School
District.
Edmonds School District (ESD) has the same Goslyn Grease Separators at many of our
schools and are using them very successfully. ESD has daily and weekly procedures
(Food Service/Custodial) that keep them clean and functioning well. When there is an
issue, the ESD Food Service Department contacts ESD Maintenance for repair.
5.
Is sink #16 going to be used as a meat prep sink?
Response provided by Barbara Lloyd, Food Service Director, Edmonds School
District.
Sink #16 will not be used as a meat sink.
6.
Fixtures to be directed to the grease collection device;
- 3 -comp sink (excluding the sanitize compartment)
- Prewash sink
- Meat prep sink
Response provided by Barbara Lloyd, Food Service Director, Edmonds School
District:
Edmonds School District Maintenance Department will connect the 3 -compartment
sink and the (existing) pre -wash sink to the grease separator. There is no meat prep
sink.
7.
As per the Pretreatment Ordinance, a maintenance log or manifest will be posted on a
wall near the device and will be filled out at each cleaning or pump out by the vendor
or whoever performs this maintenance.
Response:
Edmonds School District Maintenance Department will provide a maintenance log or
manifest on a wall near the device per the Pretreatment Ordinance.
Sincerely,
