PROJECT: DR BEN SUN TI, 2191176 TH AVE W #203
Reviewer: John Westfall, Fire Marshall
1. Required additional permits: Fire Sprinkler, Fire Alarm, Plumbing/Med GAs.
Response: Sheet A-1.0 — under SCOPE OF WORK, DEFERRED SUBMITTALS.
2. Sht A 1.0 Add 2012 IFC with CODE COMPLIANCE INFO.
Response: Sheet A 1.0 — added "2012 IFC' to CODE COMPLIANCE INFO,
3. Sht A 1.0 For BUILDING INFORMATION/TENANT IMPROVEMENT only 1 exit is required per IFC
Table 1015. 1, however 2 area provided.
Response: Sheet A 1.0 — changed NUMBER OF EXIT(S) REQUIRED to 1.
4. Where medical gas system/supply will not remain in service during project, note appropriate
protections of gas supply as prescribed in IFC Section 5304. Where medical gas system/supply
will remain in service during project, note required protections for separation, ventilation, and
fire protection per IFC Section 5306.
Response: Nitrous to be disabled during construction. Sheet A 2.0 & A 3.0 — changed plan to
keep the existing one-hour rated room with associated fire sprinkler and venting.
S. Sht A3.0 Accordion door adjacent to QUIET OP 1 must be swing or pivot type IFC 1008.1.2.
Response: Sheet A 3.0 — deleted it, it was a curtain.
6. Sht A3.0 Provide additional FEC adjacent to DOOR 17.
Response: Sheet A 3.0 — added FEC.
7. Sht A3.0 Draw extent of WALL Type C in interior gas room.
Response: Sheet A 3.0 — keeping one-hour rated med gas closet as is. Added Wall Type C
designations to show its extent.
8. Sht A3.0 Install MEDICAL GAS informational signage on outside of DOORS 5 and 4.
Response: Sheet A 3.0 — see FLOOR PLAN KEY NOTES, added note #8 to read "INSTALL MEDICAL
GAS INFORMATIONAL SIGNAGE PER CODE AT THIS DOOR" and pointing to outside of door.
9. Sht A3.0 Callout existing volume of NO2 and other medical gases.
Response: Sheet A 1.0 — see GENERAL MED GAS NOTES, added #4. VOLUME (NOT TO EXCEED
MAXIMUM 3000 CU. FT.): (2) TYPE "G" NITROUS OXIDE @ 450 CU. FT. EACH, (2) TYPE "G"
OXYGEN @ 245 CU. FT. EACH.
10. Sht A3.0 Identify dental equipment used in MECH 112, and call out mechanical, FR separation
and associated requirements.
Response: Sheet A 3.0 — see FLOOR PLAN KEY NOTES, added #9. Equipment: One Compressor
with dedicated 220V, 20Amp line to it. One Vacuum with 220V, 20Amp line to it and drain for
collection. One Amalgam Separator with no power, uses gravity feed to take out heavy
particulates from vacuum line liquids before they go down the drain. No fire rated separation
needed at mechanical.
11. Sht A3.0 DOOR SCHEDULE Clarify requirements for "overhead stop arm set to 105 degrees F."for
DOOR 12.
Response: The door has a stop arm that will stop it open beyond the 90 degree angle mark, so
easier to get into Mechanical Room. The degrees is for the angle, not for temperature.
12. Sht A3.0 If door is intended to remain open during operation is IBC 716.5.9.2 for opening
protectives more appropriate and connected to building fire alarm?
Response: IBC 716.5.9.2 Pertains to automatic closing fire door assemblies. No fire rated
separation is required here. This is not an automatic fire door assembly, just a door with a
simple hold -open device, so that if the Dr. wants to have a partial visual barrier from check-out,
he can close the door, or keep it open when he doesn't need the visual separation. For both
situations there is an exit sign at its location on the OPEN BAY side.
13. Sht A3.0 DOOR 12 is 3'0" in a 4'0" hallway, show how this meets IFC 1005.7.1.
Response: Sheet A 3.0 — this door is for a non -occupied space. Moved door into OFFICE 2, so
that it is no longer opening into the path of egress.
14. Rotate EXIT sign fixture 90 degrees perpendicular to the approaching path for egress at DOOR
Response: Sheet A 4.0 — rotated exit sign at DOOR 17 90 degrees.
