Building Division
1, Sheet A2.11 - The windows at each side of each double door from the kitchen/dining room area to the
outside should be designated as safety glass.
Windows 02 & 03 have been marked as safety glass with the "SG" designator, per the symbol legend on A0.00. See
sheet A2.11.
2. Sheet A3. i 1 - It is indicated that the vaulted area of the caging will be insulated to R-38 with batt insulation.
However, on Sheet S2.1 the rafters used in those vaulted areas are specified as 2x8. Please specify what
insulation product will be used to achieve R-38 within a 2x8 space.
Per the Typical Assemblies legend on A3.11 & A4.01, the roof assembly will include of "2x JOISTS PER STRUCT. " and
indicate to 'PROVIDE FURRING AS REQ'D FOR INSUL. & 1 " MIN. AIR VENT. ". Typical high-density R-38 batts (such
as Owens Corning EcoTouch Pink Fiberglas bans) require 10.25" of depth. Per the latest structural drawings dated
3.14.16, the rafters at the vaulted ceiling will be 2x10s. Therefore 2" of furring will need to be added. However,
conditions in the field, or future structural revisions, or alternative insulation products of with a depth other than
10.25", may warrant deeper for shallower) tuning to be added. The Language of the New Roof Assembly
accommodates those adjustments without creating inconsistencies or conflicts in the drawing set while proscribing
the minimum requirements the contractor must fulfill when using batt insulation.
3. Sheet A8.01 - Per item #1 above, please indicate on the window schedule that windows 02 and 03 are to
have safety glazing.
Windows 02 & 03 in the Window Schedule have been designated as "Tempered Safety Glazing" in the comments.
See sheet A8.01.
4. Sheet S2.1 - It appears that beam 14 fails in total load deflection. Please provide detailed calculations for
this beam including the equations used to arrive at the solution provided to help guide proper review and
inspection.
See response from Structural Engineer, attached.
5. It appears that beams 4 and 7 are overstressed in bending and fail in deflection. Please provide detailed
calculations for these beams including the equations used to arrive at the solution provided to help guide
proper review and inspection.
See response from Structural Engineer, attached.
6. It appears that the 2x8 rafters spanning 13' are slightly overstressed in bending. Please provide detailed
calculations for the rafters including the equations used to arrive at the solution provided to help guide
proper review and inspection.
See response from Structural Engineer, attached.
