2016-0506 Post Office Phase 2 Shoring Beck.pdfBeck & Associates, PLLC Structural Engineering & Code Consulting September 4, 2016 Leif Bjorback Building Official City of Edmonds 1215 th Avenue North Edmonds, WA 98020-3145 Subject: Edmonds 2020 (Post Office Phase 2)—Shoring Review Permit: 2016-0506 Per your request, Beck & Associates has completed a shoring review of the drawings and calculations for conformance with the 2012 International Building Code (IBC), as adopted and amended by the State of Washington and the City of Edmonds. Our review of the plans and calculations indicates that corrections are necessary prior to permit issuance. The applicant should address the following comments in itemized letter format in addition to making corrections & revisions to the drawings. Lateral Earth Pressures 1) The geotechnical engineer of record, Robinson Noble, should verify that the geotechnical parameters used in the design of the temporary shoring wall are consistent with their recommendations. Provide a letter summarizing the review of the shoring drawings and design for consistency with their recommendations. Identify additional recommendations, if any. Where changes are required to the shoring design as a result of the recommendations, the shoring designer, Ground Support, should provide a revised analysis and design, revising the shoring drawings accordingly. 2) Reference Sheet SH3.A — Pile and Anchor Schedules a) Reference the East Wall Pile Schedule. According to the analysis, piles E1, E2, & E3 are required to be W18x60. Please coordinate. b) Reference the South Wall Pile and Anchor Schedule. According to the analysis, pile S11 is required to be W18x76. Please coordinate. c) Reference the West Wall Pile Schedule. i) According to the analysis, piles W5 through W9 are required to be W18x60. Please coordinate. ii) According to the analysis, pile W16 is required to be W18x71. Please coordinate. Please contact me should you have any questions.
