PLAN REVIEW COMMENTS — R VIEW 02
Project: Madrona School
Permit #: BLD20170041
Location: 9300 236th St. SW, Edmonds, WA 98020
1. There is ample time to provide the current 2015 WSEC forms and they are required
for this permit submittal. As noted in the first review, specifications are not
reviewed; items listed as being required to be indicated on the plans need to be
included in the plan set.
Metrix: See attached 2015 WSEC NREC form. Please note a new sheet M-008 has
been added to provide supplemental information in regards to new NREC form.
Load calcs have been provided in previous response.
2. Specifications are not reviewed as part of plan review; provide the required information
on sheet M-001.
Metrix: See updated M-001 with added language that design meets all latest codes.
3. Increase font size of drainage fixture units (DFU's) so they are clearly legible; some DFU
callouts are not readable as the waste line blots out the text. Revise plans as required.
Metrix: See updated sheets with DFU count font size increased so that plans are more
legible.
4. Increase font size of water service fixture units (WSFU's) so they are clearly legible.
Revise plans as required.
Metrix: See updated sheets with WSFU count font size increased so that plans are more
legible.
5. Specifications are not reviewed as part of plan review; provide the required information
on sheet M-003.
Metrix: See updated M-003 with requested information provided in plumbing fixture
schedule.
6. Provide ice maker with dedicated reduced pressure backflow zone assembly.
Metrix: See updated M-222 with revised flag note 3 indicating additional CW RPBA for
icemaker.
7. Sheet M-122 still missing the flag notes on the plan.

Metrix: Per further review, there are 2 flag notes on M-122 and each is called out once.
No additional revisions necessary.
8. Specifications are not reviewed as part of plan review; provide the required information
on sheet M-221.
Metrix: See updated M-221 with flag note 2 indicating requested language.
9. EF-09 is not shown on sheet M-322. What is the vent pipe material? Indicate both on
plan.
Metrix: EF-09 has now been added to M-322. Flag Note 20 has been added to call out
venting material.
10. Who is providing the hoods is not an issue; the kitchen hoods need to be included in a
mechanical permit review. That can either be part of this review or be submitted under
a separate permit submittal.
Metrix: Per phone conversation with both Leif Bjorback and Steven Rainbow, it has
been agreed upon that the kitchen hood portion of the mechanical permit shall be
provided as a deferred submittal. During construction, Metrix shall provide the City of
Edmonds the approved submittal with review for final AHJ approval. This will be a Type
11 hood as approved by Leif Bjorback through email on 8/4/2016 to Andy Drissell
(attached email for reference).
11. Following review of the fume hood Spec sheet, please verify exhaust air flow rate for the
exhaust fan matches the specified hood.
Metrix: See updated M-005 with exhaust fan airflow that matches max airflow through
specified fume hood.

Andy, it seems reason a b I e that a Type 11 hood shou I d be sufficient for the needs of the kitchen as
you describe. Please include this same rationale on the permit drawings.
Thanks,

Subject: Madrona Replacement School (ESD) - Type II Hood Inquiry
Hello Leif,
We would like to confirm that a Type II hood is acceptable for the Madrona Replacement
School kitchen. We assume that you require an explanation of what type of food will be
prepared in the oven and the general kitchen practices with the double stack convection
ovens. Per the Nutrition Services department for Edmonds School District, Nutrition
Services staff heat breakfast sausage pizza, cheese omelets, and egg and cheese wraps.
The kitchens require the ability to reheat food if it doesn't come to the kitchen at the
proper temperature. Please note that the food is precooked and therefore produces
minimal, if any, grease or smoke when reheated in the convection ovens.
Please let us know if you require additional information to confirm that a Type II is
acceptable in our application.
Many thanks,
Andy Drissell AIA LEED AP BD+C
