Construction Operations Bearing Verification and Geogrid Placement
Description of Activity:
Contractor has completed subdrainage installation behind retaining walls. Contractor excavated for placing
consecutive layers of geogrid in accordance with plan and geotechnical engineer recommendations.
Contractor had correctly laid out the geogrid in the strength direction at the grades indicated on the plans
and was reading to cover the first layer of geogrid. TGG engineer reminded contractor to place thin layer of
rock between geogrid layers at corners.
TGG engineer verified compaction method (3 or 4 passes with the plate compactor) on loose lifts no more
ihan 4 inches to achieve the recommended compaction of the reinforced zone. Contractor has cornpaction
equipment on site and began compacting lowermost geogrid layer on lower terrace.
Contractor had prepared leveling course for the new wall north of the planter area at the south end of the
lowerterrace. Exposed soil consisted of native, undisturbed, medium dense, silty SAND with gravel, and
leveling course of 5/8"-0" crushed rock was placed to support first row of block per plan.

Description of Activity:
Contractor has installed wall drains in general accordance with approved plans. Drains consisted of 4-inch
PVC perforated pipe surrounded with clean crushed rock (Seattle Type 22,5/8" chip rock), enveloped in
filter fabric. Diagram of back wall subdrains to uncompleted outlet and discharge is shown on attached
figure. TGG gave OK to backfill and continue drain rock to within 18 inches of surface.
TESC measures are still in place and functioning. All activity is upslope from straw wattles. Stockpiled soil
excavated to place geogrids has been stockpiled against east side of the property.
