AC3235 ACM7 Seismic Clip.pdfCertification of DonnePerformance ACM7 Seismic Clip 7/8" N1 11) I'l i I' I g In the vast majority of seismic applications, only 2" Wall molding will meet code requirements. However, in certain narrowly defined applications, local building officials may approve use of 7/8" wall molding without pop rivets if tees are secured at the perimeter with a seismic attachment clip. For these special circumstances, USG offers the DoNN° brand ACM7 seismic clip, designed to provide a more robust hold than traditional L-shaped seismic clips by other manufacturers. DONN Brand ACM7 Seismic The DONN ACM7 clip features a saddle that fits securely over the tee bulb and fastens to the tee web. The ACM7 clip also provides two tow wings, which connect to the wall molding on each side of the tee with screws and friction -fit tabs. Either wing can be snipped off to fit corners and other tight spaces. And the clip adjusts easily to accommodate tees that intersect the wall at an angle. ACM7 Seismic Clip Performance Test Failure Criteria Result Tension Test Tee fallout/ separation from clip. > 500.45 load (lbs.). Test stopped at this load, with clip still attached to tee; failure load will exceed this level. Compression Test Tee fallout/ separation from clip. > 324.75 load (lbs.). Test stopped at this load, with clip still attached to tee maintaining 3/4" clearance from wall; failure load will exceed this level. ITraditional L -Clio (Bv Others) Traditional L-shaped clips attach to only one side of the tee web and do not fit over the tee bulb. And they attach to the molding with only a friction fit, not fasteners, which are required in seismic design categories D, E, and F. With so few contact points and no fasteners on the molding, tees may shift during installation, causing misalignments that can prolong the inspection process, delay approvals and risk system failure in a seismic event. Z Seismic Design Requirements When approved by agencies having jurisdiction, theACM7 seismic clip can be used to satisfy the following IBC and CISCA requirements for seismic design categories D, E, and F: 1. All tee ends on two adjacent walls must be fastened to the seismic clip, and the seismic clip must be fastened to the wall angle (IBC 1621 .2.5.2.1 , paragraph 2). 2. All tee ends on the two opposite walls must have 3/4" clearance from the wall and be free to slide on the wall angle (IBC 1621.2.5.2.1, paragraph 2). 3. All tee ends on all four walls must be supported independently a maximum of 8"from each wall or ceiling discontinuity with No. 12 gage wire orapproved wall support. (CISCA Zones 3-4, Installation, Section 2, Perimeter Wires.) 4. All tee ends on all four walls must be fastened together to prevent spreading. (CISCA Zones 3-4, Installation, Section 4, Perimeter Members.) When properly installed, and approved by agencies having local jurisdiction, the USG AC -M7 attachment clip can be used to satisfy all these requirements. Proper installation is as follows: On two adjacent walls the seismic clips must be fastened to the wall through the wall angle with two fasteners using the holes provided on the flanges of the clip. The seismic clip must be fastened to the tee bulb using one of the holes provided in the clip saddle. The tee may be flush with the wall angle. On the two opposite walls the clips must be fastened to the wall through the wall angle with one fastener using the hole provided on either flange of each clip to prevent sliding along the wall. Tees must be cut to maintain 3/4" clear- ance from the wall; tees must slide freely within the clip, so they may not be attached to the clip. This installation method will also satisfy requirements 3 &4 along all four walls. 2" Seismic Moldings While local building officials may approve use of 7/8" wall molding with a seismic clip in certain cases, it's important to recognize that the 2006 IBC (ASCE 7-05) and 2003 IBC (ASCE 7-02) provide for nothing other than 2" wall molding. This wider molding is optimum because it allows greater ceiling assembly movement during a seismic event. To meet these seismic performance requirements, USG offers two 2" wall moldings. 2" Seismic Molding Traditional L -molding, designed for use with 15/16" exposed DoNN° brand DX°/DXL'M suspension systems. This wall molding provides a simple, economical solution for fulfilling requirements for IBC seismic zones D, E, and F. Designed for use with 15/16" exposed DONN DX/DXL suspension systems, this seismic shadow molding meets or exceeds all national code requirements and fulfills requirements for design categories D, E, and F.
