John Bissell presented the staff report and explained that Wells Fargo Bank has purchased First Interstate
Bank and is proposing to change the sign plan to conform to their colors and logos. The current sign
plan consists of an internally illuminated freestanding sign adjacent to the parking lot entrance. The
applicant is proposing to replace the freestanding sign and add an internally illuminated wall -mounted
sign on the building wall facingEdmonds Way.
Both the freestanding sign and the south elevation', wall -mounted sign are plastic faced illuminated
cabinet signs, and will have orange letters on a burt orange and black background with white logo.
Existing landscaping is adequate. Tile' freestanding sign area is 24 square feet, where 24 square feet are
allowed, <tncl•the,;wall sign arca1s 3L,2 srluare feet, where.65.5 square feet are allowed. Sign heights are t�
proposed at 12 feet, where 14 feet are'allowed;
In order to approve this application, the Board must find that it is in compliance with the Design
Guidelines found in the Comprehensive Plan and the Zoning Ordinance.
There were no audience comments on this proposal.
Boardniember Pierce asked about the appropriateness of free-standing signs in this area.
John Bissell explained that the City's policy and Code discourages free-standing signs and should only
be allowed if it can be determined that this type of sign is the best reasonable method for advertising the
business.
Board Chairman Yourtg asked ifs there is sufficient. existing landscaping to meet the landscape
requir(!tn ,nts.
John Bissell clarified hitt the existing landscaping is sufficient.
Boardmember Pierce commented that he feels the sign is appropriate for the area and ttie business use.
