Although you have submitted all of the materials that are required for your application to be
considered complete, the following items will need to be addressed before review can continue:
1.A minimum of three on-site parking spaces are required for an Accessory Dwelling Unit
permit to be approved. The site plan submitted with your application shows an existing
two-car garage and a driveway that is 16 feet long at the longest point. Although the
code allows for two of the on-site parking spaces to be tandem, the length of the
driveway is not long enough to meet the Engineering Division’s minimum parking space
size requirements. The driveway must be a minimum of 18 feet in length to consider it
adequate parking for a vehicle. Please confirm that the length of the driveway meets the
minimum requirement of 18 feet or propose an alternative location per City standards for
the third parking space.
2.Please note that an application for a compliance permit (separate from the remodel permit
currently under review) is required following the preliminary decision on your Accessory
Dwelling Unit (ADU) application. Per the Building Division’s review, it is the owner’s
responsibility to determine the feasibility of development of an ADU for building code
compliance. Attached is a list of items which are meant to assist you in determining the
feasibility of such a project.
Once the City receives a response from you regarding Item #1 above, staff will continue with
review of your application. Item #2 is meant for informational purposes only and does not
require a response at this time.
