: Meg Gruwell: Planning
I have reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division. Before I can sign off on
it I need the following:
1.Exterior Changes: Ann Bullis, Assistant Building Official, has pointed out to me numerous items
listed in the notes on the plans that are not shown on the site plan as being exterior changes, but
which need to be addressed.
a.From general note on A1.1a:
(i)Reroof: What materials and colors will be used? Will it be the same as the existing roof?
(ii)Exterior Painting: In an e-mail to Steve Bullock, Senior Planner, you stated that the colors
were similar to the dun colors that are existing. I believe in an earlier telephone call, you had
mentioned that Aegis had specific colors they wanted to use, that were not the same as the
existing colors on the building. Please specify the proposed colors. If they are different than
the colors already on the building, please include color chips and photographs of the existing
building.
(iii)Fence:
(1)You mention in your e-mail to Steve Bullock that you will be replacing a rotten wood fence
with another wood fence in the same location, same height, and almost exactly the same
design. However, in the existing site plan, I do not see any fences, so I do not know what
fence you are proposing to replace. There are some enclosures that have 45 degree angles
on them that may be fenced enclosures. None of these 45 degree enclosures match your
proposed fences.
(2)The plan on sheet A1.1a shows a “new 6’ high painted wood fence” on the west side of the
building around two large fenced patio areas that are not shown on any of the site plans.
(a)If these fences are part of this permit, they need to be shown on the site plan. If they
are not, then they should be removed from sheet A1.1a.
(b)Please also show how the fence is coordinated with the building and site design.
(c)If the fence will be obscuring vegetation that has been used to screen the building, then
additional screening vegetation should be placed in front of the fence.

(3)The plan on sheet A1.1a also shows “new 6’ high painted wood fence” on the east side of
the building to the north and south of the main entrance. These enclosures are larger than
the 45 degree enclosures shown on the existing site plan.
(a) If these fences are part of this permit, they need to be shown on the site plan. If they
are not not, then they should be removed from sheet A1.1a.
(b)Please also show how the fence is coordinated with the building and site design.
(c)If the fence will be obscuring vegetation that has been used to screen the building, then
additional screening vegetation should be placed in front of the fence.
(iv)Landscaping:
(1)The proposed patios and walkways shown on sheet A1.1a should be shown on the site plan.
(2)Since it appears that landscaping will have to be removed to add the walkways and patios,
please show how that landscaping will be replaced. You may wish to review the Landscape
Policy handout, or refer to ECDC 20.12.020.
(v)Restriping Parking: Will the parking lot be restriped exactly as it is now, or is any change
proposed to the number of parking spaces or landscaping?
(vi)Entry Door: Please show how the new entry door will be coordinated with the building.
b.From Accessibility Requirements note on sheet A1.01:
(i)Please show site work, including grading, and proposed ramps and pathways.
Staff anticipates that proposed changes will be coordinated with the existing building, and not
significantly different from it, in which case, administrative review is all that is required. If proposed
changes are not in keeping with the existing building and site, staff can send the proposal to the
Architectural Design Board for their review.
If you have any questions, please call me at (425) 771-0220, extension 1330.
Please make all submittals to the Development Services Permit Coordinator, and provide two copies of
any revised plans or elevations and three copies of any site plans. Your existing plans and elevations may
also be red-lined.
Thank you.
