RE: Point Edwards Curb Ramp
Rick,
Thank you for providing the cross section, which definitely helped clarify the ramps & slope. I've discussed the
proposal with our City Engineer and with the following changes we would be acceptant of the proposal:
1) Raise the elevation of the sidewalk between the lower landing and the upper landing so it follows the same
elevation as the top of curb at the street. If the sidewalk is not held at the same elevation as the curb then
a valley would be created between the landscape area and the front edge of the sidewalk.
2) Holding the sidewalk to the same elevation as the curb creates a need for a 6foot ramp at max 8.3% from
?
sidewalk down to landing.
3) Please revise the curb ramp on the south side of Loop Road to reflect curb ramp changes noted above.
I will be out of the office starting next Monday through Labor Day weekend. If you can revise the detail and
resubmit to me before Friday then I will be able to finalize approval prior to my being out of the office.
Thank you,
Jeanie

It is the same detail apparently the reference has changed. Please see the attached pdf showing
?
location of a section line thru the curb ramp and providing a crosssection of what we are proposing. Note
?
that the sidewalk starts out at nearly at same elevation as the depressed curb, and must slope down to
connect with other landing to the east. Given our goal of minimizing this slope, it does not make sense to
ramp up from the landing as indicated on the WSDOT detail. Rather, I am proposing to ramp gently down,
at 2%. In effect then, the ramp becomes a second landing, accommodating the change in direction, and
minimizing the grade break at the sidewalk. This is different than the WSDOT detail but I believe that it
?
meets the intent of the standard.
I await your direction.
Rick

I haven't been able to find a detail for a WSDOT Type 4c ramp. If you could send it to me that would be
great. I've attached a detail that would work at this location, but it's not consistent with what you have
drawn up on the plans. As shown in the detail, the sidewalk ramps down to the landing. The plans do not
indicate a ramp transition from the sidewalk to the landing. The ramp cannot exceed 8.3% slope.
Thank you,
Jeanie
