Sincerely, Jeannine L. raf Building Official • Incorporated August 11, 1890 • Sister City - Hekinan, Japan 4 To: Ann Bullis Re: Arnesen BLD20080166 3/17/09 Hello Ann, I recently received a reminder letter stating that my permit was about to expire. It also stated that the permit is not renewable. When I purchased the permit last year I was told the permit could be renewed. I was told by the Building Dept. that because work was started prior to issuance of the permit it was only valid for a Year, I purchased a home that was previously a marijuana grow house, there was an illegally framed room in the basement, dangerous electrical work, and the previous renters had goats. The goats had caused intense drywall damage in the basement and the garage. When I purchased the house, I was working on a house down the street, building a deck. I later found out the person I was working for would not pay and he was also a renter. I had met these people through,my sons baseball team, so I was not suspicious of them, After I found out they would not pay, they sued me, filed a claim against the company I was working for to the state attorney general, and filed a complaint to the BBB against the company. When I started to replace windows and doors at my house, they filed a complaint stating I was remodeling without a permit. I did not think that required a permit, nor did I think that removing an illegally built grow room would require a permit, as I was just cleaning up a drug zone, which required removing everything associated with the grow room. I purchased my permit with the intent of finishing, unfortunately this past year has not been a good year for my profession and I have not had the time to complete it, nor the means to pay someone to complete it. I have been able to frame the master bedroom and master closet. I am also ready to have the gas piping inspected. I have recently purchased my electrical permit and am close to ready for inspection there. Finding the time to get away from work has made it hard to get the inspections done. I am trying to get the inspections done in the next couple of weeks, but I know I cannot complete the project by the expiration date. Due to the financial hardships we have been under this past year we have the need to scale back what we can finish, and be able to move into the basement master bedroom. We will be able to finish the master bedroom and the master closet. The master bathroom and the family room will have to wait until we can afford those projects. I am trying to comply with the city in this matter and would like to keep my permit active. In my job i have worked with the city of Seattle and Shoreline, and the policy for renewal there is a minimum of one inspection is required for renewal. I was under the impression the city of Edmonds would be similar. Please let me know what I need to do keep my permit active", as 1 plan to be able to move into the basement by the end of summer. I have three children and heed the room usable, but would also like it to be approved by the city.
