Bob Murphy Earthwork Contractor Earthwork Contrector Supt- Received Checked By _At the request of Bob Murphy with Murphy Building Co., I come on site today to observe installation of temporary erosion control, evaluate stability of cut banks of building footprint -excavation, and verify footing bearing soil for the construction of the homes on the two subject lots. At the time of my site visit, silt fences have already, been erected on the downhill sides of the subject lots with rolls of hay wad placed at strategic locations to keep sediment from being trasnsported downhill by storm runoff. The bottom of the silt fence fabrics are anchored in trenches filled with washed gravel, Building footprint excavation and construction of footing foundations and basement walls of the two homes also have been completed. Vertical cut banks up to about 7 to 8 feet were observed along perimeters of building footprint excavation. The bottom of the building footprint excavation is cut into a light -gray fresh till soil of gravelly,_ silty, fine. sand deposit with occasional cobble. Groundwater has not been encountered by the excavation. A_steel T -bar manually pushed into the footing bearing fresh till soil along the edges of already poured footing foundations ran penetrate no more than an inch or two deep, indicating the footing bearing soil is very dense. It is my opinion that the footing bearing soil is capable of rendering an allowable bearing capacity of at least _3,000 psf. The vertical cut banks in till soil are all quite stable. It is my opinion that the cut banks will remain stable for the duration of construction of the homes, and that it will be safe for construction workers to access _ and worts in the footprint excavation area. Received Checked By At the request of Bob Murphy with Murphy Building Co.. I come on today to observe installation of footing_ drains for the homes being constructed on the subject lots. At the time of my site visit., the footing drain lines of 4 -inch rigid perforated PVC pipes have mostly been laid along the perimeter foundations of the buildings,, exce t around the garage where footing drains are omitted. The geotechnical report for this project recommended that footing drain lines be wrapped in non -woven filter fabric socks and completely enclosed in clean 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch washed gravel or crushed rock. The footing _ drains are embedded in 3/8 to 1-1/2 inch washed gravel with a nonwoven filter fabric liner covering the top of the washed gravel fill. it is my opinion footing drains constructed in this manner are acceptable, too. The fitter fabric should keep soil from migrating into the drain lines and there is little chance that the finer gravel would plug _ up the holes in the PVC pipe walls. _ It is my opinion the footing drains are properly installed.
