During review of the subject submittal, it was found that the following information, corrections, or
clarifications would need to be addressed. All Handouts and Standard Details referred to in these
comments can be accessed at our website: www.ci.edmonds.wa.us under City Government / City
Departments / Public Works/ Engineering Division:
1. The projection of the illumination feature is considered independently of the sign. The projection of this
feature is measured from the building, including the measurement the awning and sign projection. Projections
over the right of way are limited to 36” are required to be removed each day. As the proposed illumination
feature extention is over 36” and will not be removed daily, it does not meet the requirements of the Edmonds
Community Development Code (ECDC) Street Use Code, Section 18.70.030 C.1.g which states;
g. All temporary objects, excluding approved awnings and wall signs, that project more than 36 inches into the
right-of-way shall be removed each day at the close of business.
2. The projection also will extend over public parking which is prohibited in ECDC Chapter 18.70.030 C.1.a;
a. No portion of the public right-of-way designed and intended for vehicular traffic or parking shall be
permanently occupied;
3. If the illumination was considered under the Encroachment Code (this is unlikely but wanted to explore all
options) it would not meet the limitation of the 24” projection over the right of way. ECDC Chapter 18.70.030
D.1.3;
3. The building encroachment shall not project more than two feet (24 inches) into the right-of-way;
Please revise plans removing the extended illumination and resubmit.
