Driven Pipe Piles Prior to our arrival, the contractor had installed 2 piles (Pile numbers 6 and 9) to a depth of approximately 12 feet below existing site grades using a pneumatic hammer. While on site, we observed the contactor drive 7 piles (Piles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 as referenced on the attached plan sheet) to refusal, and observed re -taps on the previously installed piles. Piles 1 through 9 were . observed to have met the refusal criteria, defined as less than 1 -inch of displacement over 60 seconds of sustained, continuous driving with a 90 -pound pneumatic hammer. The observed piles, were completed to the following depths, listed in the order of installation. Pile Number Total Length of 2 -inch Amount of Pipe Cut Pile Length, Below Refusal Criteria Metz Diameter Pipe Off Above Bracket ft Bracket ft 6* 15. 2.5 12.5 Yes *Piles 6 and 9 installed prior to AESI's arrival AESI observed the piles referenced above be driven to the established refusal criteria. -It should be noted that the horizontal distances for piles 1 through 5 were per the plans and specifications, but that the horizontal distance between piles 6 and 9 were not. At the time of our arrival, the foundation brackets had already been mounted to the foundations and foundation areas had been prepared for the piles. The distance between piles 6 and 7 was observed to be about 4 feet, the distance between piles 7 and 8 was approximately 9 feet, and the distance between piles 8 and 9 was observed to be 7 feet. AESI recommends that the Structural Engineer be notified of the discrepancy so that he (the Structural) can determine acceptability of the piles with respect to the approved plans and specifications. AESI notified the Structural Engineer, who will schedule a site visit to observe the placement of the piles.
